I've run my own sales recruiting business for over 8 years. The money is really good but it's never enough. The real problem, however, is that it's not predictable. So a really good month could be followed by a really bad month---or a couple of bad months..
I was always okay with that until my first child was born. And now I have two small children--and child care and a mortgage, and other financial obligations....Like everyone.
So, as I put my kids to bed every night and watch them fall peacefully asleep, I start to feel the weight of the world on my shoulders.
Fear starts to creep in: "What if I can't find candidates fast enough? What if my clients don't make my candidates job offers? What if the money stops coming in and we lose the house? Where will my kids sleep?"
And on and on...
Then one day, I heard an information marketer on my favorite podcast.
He was talking about how he sent out one email (with an irresistible offer) that made him $300,000 in just a couple of days. But what made that $300,000 so critical was that he owed $250,000 in taxes---and he found out about it just 4 days before April 15th. Tax day in the United States.
If he hadn't previously nurtured his email list over time, that wouldn't have been possible.
From that point on I had a singular focus.
I was going to build an email list and start selling information online like that guy. So if I were ever in a similar situation, I could pay off my debt just as fast... and keep a roof over my kids' heads.
So I decided to do the obvious. I would sell an online course teaching people how to start and run their own recruiting business. I called it "Headhunting From Home".
But I had a major problem. After 30 days of pouring everything I had into creating that course, I realized that I had absolutely no idea how to market it.
Now I had to learn everything under the sun about how to sell an information product. One failure after another I realized that I needed to find a shortcut. I couldn't possibly master all of it.
So I decided to focus on one area---email marketing. But I finally did something different.
I decided I was going to hire a professional copywriter to write all of my follow-up email campaigns. That would solve a major challenge. I could now focus on creating the best course possible.
And although I never officially launched my recruiting course, I was able to send out 7 emails in a week as part of a product launch sequence , and I made over $6000! (And my sales page got shut down twice during that week. Long story for another time.)
I'll tell you more about the product launch sequence shortly.
Of course my success paled in comparison to the money that guru generated, but as a result, I was able to earn more in that one week than most people do in a month.
I accomplished what I had set out out to achieve. I built a product that gave me the ability to produce generate income just by sending follow-up sequences.
